Director, Global Benefits

The Director of Benefits will be responsible for the development of the overall employee benefit strategy and effective execution of the benefit programs, including health, paid time off policies and retirement. In addition, the role will also be responsible for the management of the Company’s Global benefit plans and programs in accordance with plan documents, insurance contracts, vendor agreements and applicable Federal, state and local regulations.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Create, design and evolve a multiyear global benefits strategy and programs to support the changing needs of our diverse employee base in line with the Total Reward philosophy. Identifying the core benefits and policies to be provided globally compared to local variances
  • Manage and drive Sonova's US benefit plans and programs
  • Oversee plan design and pricing strategies, communication, and compliance. The successful candidate will oversee the benefit philosophy and drive practices and plans across all regions and countries with local business leaders, HR and global rewards professionals and through the management of internal and vendor partner relationships.
  • Actively stays abreast of local market practices, trends and requirements to ensure benefit offering remain market competitive, sound financially, and legally compliant
  • Drive the globalization of initiatives and identify where alignment and harmonization can occur to prevent duplication of effort and create a consistent employee experience
  •  Lead the digital transformation of benefits programs globally increasing automation and driving efficiencies
  • Works closely with Talent for the expansion of the Wellbeing strategy which includes wellness programs and tools to help employees achieve their personal health, emotional and financial objectives
  • Develop, in cooperation with Talent, engaging and informative communication programs designed to keep employees and management knowledgeable about company benefit plans and integrates with the broader Sonova EVP
  • Monitor use, adoption, effectiveness, and compliance of benefits processes, policies and programs
  • Work with procurement and external providers to identify and engage benefits vendors
  • Provide directly and through the team subject matter expertise, advice and guidance for cases / inquiries that require deep benefits expertise
  • Partner with Business HR to develop business unit specific benefits programs within a Sonova global benefits framework
  • Manage and oversees benefit vendors (i.e. brokers, insurance carriers, record-keepers), trustees and other administrative and/or legislative agencies; evaluate and recommend outside business partners based on performance and value
  • Lead a team of benefits specialists and provide leadership, support, and mentorship to them
  • Other duties as assigned


Education and Skillset:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required, PHR or SHRMP-CP or CEBS Certification preferred
  • 8+ years of progressive benefits experience
  • 5+ years people management experience
  • Working knowledge of government regulations/filing compliance requirements impacting benefit and leave programs
  • Ability to think creatively and apply a practical business driven approach
  • Excellent conceptual and analytical skills and ability to define suitable action plans based on defined strategy to offer alternatives and creative solutions
  • Demonstrates flexible and efficient time management with the ability to prioritize workload
  • Excellent partnership skills, building rapport and driving results through accountability in an agile environment working with wider HR teams, the business and external suppliers
  • Has strong internal consulting skills, with ability to champion and influence change and a willingness to take risks
  • Acquisition experience, hearing healthcare and/or multiunit retail industry experience a bonus
  • Knowledge of integrated benefits and HRIS systems, ADP preferred
  • SAP experience preferred
