Director, Manufacturing Engineering – Custom Products

About the Role
As the Director of Manufacturing Engineering – Custom Products, you will lead a multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering exceptional Process, Product, and Service Solutions that drive Sonova’s Core Value Drivers (CVDs). You will oversee engineering support for product families including In-the-Ear (ITE), custom molded products, and private label products, ensuring innovation, quality, and operational excellence.
This is a high-impact leadership role with responsibility for strategy, execution, and talent development, directly shaping how Sonova advances its manufacturing capabilities, technology adoption, and global operations performance.
What You’ll Do
- One of the main responsibilities of this position is New Product Introduction (NPI). This involves leading a team of NPI Project Managers and Process Development Engineers who partner with R&D on NPD projects. Their goal is to develop new manufacturing processes which will then be transferred to our global manufacturing sites to launch at scale.
- Lead and develop a manufacturing engineering team to ensure a culture of high engagement, performance.
- Drive manufacturing improvements in EHS, Process Excellence, Delivery, Financials, Innovation, and People.
- Create and execute multi-year product and process improvement roadmaps which will enable Sonova’s continued success.
- Manage and prepare budgets, business cases for projects and investments, and report progress to senior leadership.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
What We’re Looking For
- Engineering or Science degree (Electrical/Mechanical preferred); Master’s is a plus.
- 10+ years of engineering leadership experience in regulated industries (medical devices, automotive, pharma, hearing devices/aids is a plus).
- Strong background in automation, new product introduction, and advanced manufacturing.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, SAP, MS Project.
- English required; German or French an asset.
- Willingness to travel up to 20%.
