Director Business Development & M&A

The Director Business Development & Regional Strategy ex. China will support the APAC Leadership Team in the strategy development process to shape the regions short- to mid-term strategic direction.


The role drives sustainable growth across the region by identifying, evaluating, and executing strategic expansion opportunities. This role focuses on expansion, partnerships, M&A support, market entry and new business models to strengthen Sonova’s presence in Retail and Wholesale. Working closely with the APAC leadership and global strategy teams, the role translates strategic priorities into actionable growth initiatives, builds robust business cases, and supports execution to accelerate profitable growth across diverse APAC markets. The role will be a key contributor in driving the business or part of the group to its next stage of development.

Strategy
•    Partner directly with the President APAC and the APAC Leadership team to identify, prioritize, and execute concrete growth opportunities across markets, channels, and business verticals.
•    Lead the identification and execution of regional growth initiatives in alignment with global priorities, focusing on scalable opportunities across wholesale and retail businesses.
•    Support the development of country and channel specific strategies, strategic plans and objectives for the organization in alignment with the Senior Leadership team in APAC. Driving strategy development in the APAC region and participating in the development of the business field portfolios (incl. new business fields, deal pipeline of potential M&A targets, etc.)
•    Oversee and drive the execution of growth initiatives, including market entry, acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic partnerships, in close collaboration with cross-functional teams (Sales, Marketing, Finance, Operations, HR) and ensure alignment across the organization.
•    Contribute to new market initiatives and business opportunities in both new and existing markets. Support leaders in defining and implementing a prioritized roadmap (capabilities, processes, and tools) to achieve the defined goals.
Lead and drive inorganic growth / M&A strategy
•    Identify, assess, and cultivate potential M&A targets across APAC in line with regional growth priorities.
•    Develop a robust pipeline of opportunities, balancing Retail expansion (e.g., stores, direct-to-consumer channels) and Wholesale growth (e.g., distributors, strategic partnerships, capability enhancement).
•    Monitor market dynamics, competitor activity, and regulatory environments to proactively uncover opportunities for inorganic growth
•    Analyse and conduct markets, competitive, and customer analyses to identify actionable growth opportunities, risks, and emerging trends.
Transaction Execution
•    Lead the full M&A lifecycle, including preparation, negotiation, and closing of transactions.
•    Manage and coordinate comprehensive due diligence (financial, operational, commercial, legal, HR, IT, regulatory) with internal teams (and external advisors).
•    Prepare and present business cases, valuations, and investment proposals to support informed decision-making at regional and global levels.
Stakeholder Management & Governance
•    Relationship management: Liaise with key internal and external stakeholders to build and maintain strategically important relationships.
•    Drive for results. Assist in achieving the Strategic Plan objectives and KPI related to the priorities in collaboration with the functional owners. Proactively lead  problem solving processes to find root causes and countermeasures for driving / delivering growth plans, and resolving transactional performance issues.
