Director Global Media Relations

Purpose of the Role


As the Director Global Media Relations, you will lead Sonova’s global media strategy and serve as Sonova’s primary spokesperson. In this high-impact role, you will shape and execute communications initiatives that strengthen Sonova’s reputation as a thought leader and global innovator in hearing health. You will also provide strategic counsel to the CEO on all matters related to external engagement, ensuring consistent, influential and forward-thinking media presence. 


Key Responsibilities

 

  • Design and execute a visionary global media strategy that amplifies Sonova’s brand, aligns with corporate priorities, and reinforces its leadership in hearing health innovation.
  • Serve as Sonova’s lead spokesperson, cultivating trusted relationships with Tier 1 media outlets across key markets (US, UK, DE, FR, CH) to shape and steer public perception.
  • Drive high-impact financial communications in close collaboration with Investor Relations, ensuring transparency, consistency, and compliance with requirements for a listed company
  • Coach and empower senior executives, including the CEO and Executive Committee, to become influential, authentic voices for Sonova’s mission and innovation
  • Lead issues management, overseeing proactive crisis communications, scenario planning, and real-time issue monitoring to safeguard brand integrity.
  • Establish and optimize media performance metrics, using KPIs and analytics to measure impact, inform strategy, and continuously elevate communications outcomes.
  • Leverage the company and CEO voice on digital platforms, especially LinkedIn, to expand reach, strengthen executive visibility, and amplify strategic campaigns.
  • Create high-quality, narrative-driven content—from press releases and speeches to op-eds and Q&As—that reflects Sonova’s values, voice, and global relevance.

 

Your Profile

 

  • Master’s degree in communications, Journalism, or related field; agency or newsroom experience is a plus.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in media relations in a global organisation.
  • Deep expertise in financial and issues/crisis communications for a publicly listed company.
  • Well-established media network across key markets and strong track record of positioning senior leaders with top-tier media and business wires.
  • Strategic thinker and influencer with hands-on execution skills and a strong ability to prioritize in fast-paced environments.
  • Expert in stakeholder engagement and cross-functional collaboration, able to build and nurture trusted relationships
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills; experience in ghostwriting and messaging for C-suite is essential.Expert in leveraging social media (especially LinkedIn) and digital storytelling for executive visibility; confident in using GenAI tools responsibly.
  • Native-level English and German required; any  additional languages are advantageous.
