R&D Battery Engineer (m/f/d)

 

At Sonova, we believe breakthrough products start with breakthrough technologies. As an R&D Battery Engineer, you will drive battery innovation across our Hearing Instruments and Charging Systems, bringing next-generation energy solutions from technology scouting to product integration.

Working in a highly collaborative and regulated medical device environment, you will help shape the battery technologies powering the next generation of hearing solutions and chargers and improving the lives of millions of people worldwide

 

 

More about the role

 

  • Scout, evaluate, and qualify next-generation battery technologies, chemistries, packaging concepts, and manufacturing innovations
  • Collaborate with leading battery suppliers to assess new technologies and successfully introduce them into Sonova hearing instruments and chargers
  • Lead battery characterization, verification, validation, reliability and lifetime assessments throughout product development
  • Drive battery integration across Hearing Instruments and Charging Systems, working closely with electrical, mechanical, software, system, manufacturing, and quality engineers
  • Contribute to Battery Management System (BMS) concepts, including charging strategies, battery modeling, and State of Charge (SoC) and State of Health (SoH) estimation
  • Develop Python tools to automate testing, data analysis, and engineering workflows
  • Apply statistical methods and use Design of Experiments (DoE) to analyze complex engineering data, optimize battery performance, and support robust, data-driven decision-making
  • Stay at the forefront of battery innovation and translate emerging technologies into competitive product solutions

 

 

More about you

 

  • Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field
  • Proven experience in battery technology development within medical devices, consumer electronics, wearables, automotive, or another high-tech industry
  • Experience working with battery suppliers and introducing new battery technologies into products.
  • Good understanding of Battery Management Systems (BMS), battery modeling, charging strategies, and battery estimation algorithms such as State of Charge (SoC) and State of Health (SoH)
  • Deep understanding of battery technologies, electrochemistry, battery manufacturing processes, reliability, aging mechanisms, and verification methodologies
  • Strong Python programming skills for engineering automation and data analysis
  • Experience with JMP, statistical analysis, and Design of Experiments (DoE)
  • A collaborative mindset, strong analytical skills, and a passion for innovation
  • Practical, hands-on attitude and ability to work on-site in a laboratory setting
  • Independent, structured, and reliable work style
  • Strong communication skills and team orientation
  • Fluent spoken and written English
