Research Engineer (Onsite)

The Research Engineer I contributes to the development and testing of AB’s products by applying foundational engineering principles and research methodologies; supports projects through data analysis, prototyping, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to advance technical capabilities and meet organizational objectives.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct testing and analysis of devices, components, and subassemblies for both legacy and new product lines.
  • Support root cause failure analysis for production and field-reported component issues.
  • Oversee general lab operations, including calibration, materials management, and routine maintenance activities.
  • Develop and implement testing protocols for new software tools, implants, and electrode concepts.
  • Prioritize and manage dynamic project workloads, coordinating with team resources to ensure timely execution.
  • Prepare, update, and maintain reports, logs, records, and documentation in compliance with established Quality policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Travelling Requirement: up to 5%

 

More about you:

Education

  • University degree in, electrical engineering, mechanical design, physics or related field.

 

 

Work Experience

  • Educational or entry level experience in Material science, or electrical/mechanical design.

Nice to Have

  • Preferred experience in Medical Devices, Class III or other class of regulated environments (Aerospace etc..)

 

 

Social Competencies

  • Ability to work in an ambiguous environment and collaborate across multiple areas to achieve a common business objective.

 

 

Professional Competencies

  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Good overall theoretical knowledge of electronics/electrical engineering.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in following areas: electro-mechanical assembly of medical devices, with strong emphasis on mechanical.
  • Fabrication and test of delicate components, handling and testing of prototypes.
  • Demonstrated skills in laboratory work experience including sample preparation, optical microscopy and basic troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrate good verbal & technical writing skills, works well with a team and organized.
  • Highly motivated self-starter capable of working independently as well as in group settings.
  • Experience using test electronic test equipment, use hand tools and small power tools.
  • Able to read and understand technical drawings, datasheets, and written work instructions.

 

 

Language(s)/ Level

  • English/ Fluent

 

 

IT Skills

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Windows, Office Outlook, Excel, Word and must be able to communicate with internal customers, provide needed documentation and status updates.

 

 

 

A minimum of 200Mb/sec download and 10Mb/sec upload speed internet connectivity is required to support any remote/hybrid employee functionality at Sonova

This role's pay range is between $75,200/yr - $112,800/yr (based on location). This role is also bonus eligible.
