Intern, Mechanical Engineer
The Mechanical Engineering Intern supports the design, development, and verification of mechanical components and assemblies used in Advanced Bionics’ cochlear implant systems. The incumbent assists with CAD modeling, prototype fabrication, mechanical testing, and documentation activities in compliance with company procedures and applicable medical device regulations. This position provides exposure to cross-functional collaboration and hands-on experience within a regulated product development environment.
Responsibilities:
- Support the design and development of mechanical components, subassemblies, and systems for implantable and external products.
- Create and update 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings under supervision.
- Assist in prototype assembly, test setup, and mechanical evaluations to assess form, fit, and function.
- Conduct basic tolerance analyses and engineering calculations as assigned.
- Prepare and maintain documentation in accordance with quality system requirements (e.g., design history files, test reports).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Materials Engineering to support project objectives.
- Participate in design reviews and team meetings to present findings and learn from peers and mentors.
More about you:
- Education: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Work Experience: The candidate possesses working knowledge of 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent), a basic understanding of mechanical design principles, tolerancing, materials, and manufacturing processes, along with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and effective written and verbal communication skills.
- The candidate demonstrates learning agility with curiosity and openness to new concepts and tools, collaborates effectively within multidisciplinary teams while embracing feedback, maintains strong attention to detail in technical and documentation work, shows accountability by taking ownership and meeting commitments, upholds integrity through ethical standards and confidentiality, and displays initiative by proactively contributing ideas and solving problems.
- Language: English fluency, German or Spanish preferred.
A minimum of 200Mb/sec download and 10Mb/sec upload speed internet connectivity is required to support any remote/hybrid employee functionality at Sonova
