Intern, Systems Engineering
The Systems Engineering Intern supports the Systems Engineering team in activities spanning the early stages of product development through integration and verification. Under close supervision, the intern assists with requirements review, basic analysis, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration. This role is designed to provide exposure to systems engineering practices used in the development of Class III medical devices and to help the intern build foundational technical and professional skills.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in reviewing and organizing product requirements and specifications under guidance from a Systems Engineer.
- Support basic system-level analyses or tradeoff discussions by gathering data, running simple models, or preparing comparison tables.
- Contribute to feasibility study tasks such as literature searches, data collection, or building simple simulations using approved tools.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings with Electrical, Firmware, Software, Mechanical, and Product Marketing teams; take notes and summarize key action items.
- Help prepare diagrams, documentation, or architecture visuals to support system definition and integration activities.
- Perform supervised testing, data logging, or experimental set-ups to support issue investigation or root-cause analysis activities.
- Document work clearly and maintain organized files to support traceability and team knowledge-sharing.
- Develop assigned modules such as test infrastructure, simulation test bench, module/application code in applicable languages such Python, C, VHDL/Verilog, LTspice, Matlab, lab instruments etc.
More about you:
- Education: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical field. Completion of junior-level coursework preferred.
- Work Experience: Prior internship or project experience in an engineering or laboratory environment beneficial but not required. Exposure to system-level thinking or multidisciplinary engineering through coursework is a plus.
- The candidate should have basic familiarity with areas such as analog/digital circuits, embedded systems, FPGA or microcontroller platforms, DSP concepts, RF principles, and control systems, along with experience using engineering tools like MATLAB or Python for coursework or projects, and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Language: English fluency, German or Spanish preferred.
A minimum of 200Mb/sec download and 10Mb/sec upload speed internet connectivity is required to support any remote/hybrid employee functionality at Sonova

This role's hourly pay is: $25.00.
