Research Scientist Computational Audiology

What you’ll do:

With access to a large and growing data set, you will apply computational approaches to simplifying audiological applications and solving complex clinical problems. You will thrive in an inter-disciplinary team environment comprising researchers, clinicians, and technologists who are passionate about translating novel concepts for merging cochlear prosthetic devices with the connected world of today to practical solutions for connecting patients to the world of sound.


•        Manage a research program focused on incorporating data-driven insights into audiological solutions for improving treatment and success of cochlear implant recipients. Collaborate with stakeholders to formulate solution candidates that align with product vision, develop data-driven analytic approaches and protocols for feasibility studies, and participate in successful execution of studies and external collaborations.

•        Collaborate with multi-functional teams (product development, clinical research, marketing, quality, etc) to identify opportunities and execute data analysis projects that inform business imperatives.

•        Link relevant data sets and conduct rigorous statistical analyses to modern scientific standard for generating insights on user behavior, product use patterns and product performance.

•        Collaborate with data engineering teams at Advanced Bionics and sister companies at Sonova to understand data infrastructure and ensure uniform research access to relevant databases.

•        Assist or guide external collaborators on analysis of data sets from recipients of Advanced Bionics devices.

•        Prepare technical documentation to support communication with diverse internal stakeholders, and where appropriate, prepare manuscripts for publication.

•        Support development of intellectual property.

Travelling Requirement    5% for visits to clinics, conferences, and external collaborators or 20% for visiting company site if based remotely


What you bring to the team:


Basic Education     Masters in Computer Science, Applied Math, Statistics or related discipline

Audiology, Hearing Science, or related fields

Databases and database management


Further Education  Ph.D. Hearing Science, Audiology, or equivalent field with emphasis on predictive analytics and quantitative data analysis

Data mining, machine learning

Work Experience   

2 years of previous research experience in an audio or medical device field

Previous research experience in cochlear implants, hearing aids, or related field


Personal Competencies    Strong commitment to taking accountability and generating timely high-quality results. Ability to advance initiatives with minimal supervision. Ability to deal with ambiguity. Self-starter.

Deep knowledge of the field of data analytics.
