Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Implants)

Mechanical Implant Design Engineer


Purpose of the Job    

Design and develop solutions for permanently implantable devices including electrode lead and array subsystems from ideation through prototyping and proof of concept to industrialization, production transfer and launch.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities    •    Develop solutions for permanently implantable devices, electrode lead and array subsystems
•    Develop and design product solutions considering market, quality, manufacturability and risk requirements
•    Design of experiments and test development to ensure product reliability during all development stages
•    Author and review technical product specifications
•    Report status and results to core team 
•    Support product definition, verification and validation processes
•    Support root cause and failure analysis 
•    Support risk assessment and management


Travelling Requirement    Minimum


Basic Education    B. Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent
Master’s degree

Work Experience    

•    3+ years of professional experience in product design and development of medical devices.
•    3+ years of experience with cross-functional matrix organizations
•    3+ years of professional experience in medical device class III or other highly regulated industry 
•    Cochlear implant, middle ear actuators or microphones and/or neuro-stimulation background
•    Professional experience in design and development of electrode leads and arrays 
•    Project management 

Professional Competencies    
•    Advanced knowledge in process development design of  permanently implantable active medical devices
•    Advanced knowledge in materials and fabrication methods used in implantable medical devices
•    Fundamentals in design of experiments
•    Proven track record in creating, managing and reviewing technical documentation in a highly regulated environment
•    Proven track record in design for manufacturability, design for quality, design to cost 
•    Advanced knowledge in inspection methods and metrology equipment 
•    Basic knowledge of bio-compatibility requirements 
•    Strong analytical and problem solving skills

•    Familiarity with the anatomy and physiology of the human ear
•    Familiarity with hearing loss, types, causes and therapies
•    Familiar with the subject matter of electrical nerve stimulation 
•    Background in diagnostic imaging and data analysis


Language(s) / Level    Proficient in English, oral and written 

IT skills    Proficient in MS Office 365, PLM/PDM systems, ProEngineer CREO CAD or equivalent
ANSYS, MS Project, Minitab
