Acoustic Engineer

This position requires a combination of mechanical, acoustic, and audio quality expertise.
As an Acoustic Engineer, you will be at the forefront of designing and building new headphone models from scratch, as well as modifying existing products. Your role will involve assessing sound quality, rapid prototyping (including 3D printing, gluing, and cutting), and defining design guidelines. You will focus on bringing products to market, balancing research interests with practical application.
Your tasks
- Define, build and characterize physical prototypes of acoustic systems for premium quality Sennheiser headphones. Integrate electro-acoustic components and acoustic requirements, considering system design and manufacturability.
- Investigate and develop acoustic system design concepts to achieve product performance requirements. Conduct acoustic measurements of components, subsystems and full assemblies and perform thorough analysis of results
- Directly collaborate with DSP-, control-, electrical-, and mechanical engineers to tune and optimize system performance
- Support prototype- and production system builds both on-location at the factory and remotely. Collaborate with partners to develop and validate manufacturing assembly procedures to meet product performance requirements
- Conduct technological feasibility studies and continuous market research on new technologies and competition
- Utilize simulation tools like Matlab/Simulink, SPICE, and/or FEA to predict and optimize acoustic system behavior
Your profile
- 3+ years of product development experience in audio equipment, specifically in acoustics, within a pro audio or consumer audio company
- Technical Degree or equivalent experience
- In-depth knowledge of acoustics, relevant electrical components, and analog electronics, experience in tuning of audio products
- Practical knowledge of headphone acoustical structures and enclosure/port design
- Proficiency in using and selecting acoustical test equipment (e.g., GRAS, B&K, Audio Precision, Listen Inc.)
- Ability to specify requirements for acoustical components, including drivers, microphones, and acoustic meshes
- Strong communication skills in English
- Knowledge of noise cancelling technologies, experience with digital signal processing and familiarity with acoustic simulation tools and methods will be a plus
