Sound Quality Engineer (m/f/d)
As a Sound Quality Engineer, you will be developing audiological features, evaluating, optimizing, and verifying the sound quality and performance of Sonova's hearing solutions.
Working closely with experts across R&D teams and the marketing department, you will translate innovative technologies into measurable end-user benefits and excellent hearing experiences that improve the lives of millions.
More about the role:
- Develop and maintain hearing device features to deliver exceptional user benefits and outstanding listening experiences.
- Parameterize hearing device functions using MATLAB, Simulink or Python and optimize performance to meet speech intelligibility and sound quality requirements.
- Use AI methods and tools to develop and optimize audiological features and evaluate sound performance of DNN-based solutions.
- Build firmware images and measure performance of hearing devices in an acoustic test box, a fully equipped acoustic lab (with KEMAR), or a dedicated electrical audio setup and provide evidence-backed performance metrics.
- Define the metrics and evaluation methods and develop tests for sound quality and feature performance evaluation.
- Create audio recordings with hearing devices and dedicated equipment to prepare stimuli for device testing.
- Conduct experiments with subjects to understand subjective performance in real-world scenarios.
- Contribute to feature integration and system verification activities, conduct tests and provide expert feedback on device sound performance.
- Closely collaborate with audiological research, signal processing, AI, data insights, software engineering, and other R&D teams.
- Support the marketing department by providing improvement ideas, claims metrics, conducting competitive intelligence studies and preparing technical setups for sound demos.
More about you:
Must-have:
- Higher-level degree in science or engineering (Electrical Engineering, Physics, Acoustics, Biomedical Engineering, or a comparable technical or scientific discipline).
- Strong knowledge in one or more of the following areas: sound engineering, signal processing, acoustics, audiology, or electro-acoustic.
- At least 3 years of professional experience in engineering, acoustics, signal processing, or a comparable R&D environment.
- Skilled in one or more of the following tools: MATLAB, Python, XML, Audio editing tools (e.g. Adobe Audition, ProTools, Reaper or similar).
- Intellectually curious, proactive, and solution-oriented, with strong analytical thinking and sound judgment.
- Collaborative, reliable, and fun to work with, building trust and strong relationships across teams.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
Nice to have:
- Experience within the medical device industry or other regulated development environments.
- Experience in hearing technology or audiology-related products.
- Skilled in AI tool for sound engineering or signal processing
