Join Advanced Bionics, a Sonova Group company, as a Senior Engineer, Systems – Embedded Electronics and help develop innovative cochlear implant systems that improve the lives of people with hearing loss.
In this role, you will develop system requirements and architectures, conduct feasibility studies and guide complex products through system integration, verification, manufacturing transfer and post-market support. You will collaborate across electrical, firmware, software, mechanical and integrated-circuit engineering, with a focus on embedded electronics and overall system performance.
Responsibilities

Partner with Marketing, Project Management and R&D teams to define product requirements and technical specifications.

Develop system and subsystem architectures for embedded electronic products.

Lead system-level trade-off analyses across integrated circuits, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, power, product performance, cost, complexity, schedule, risk and usability.

Conduct feasibility studies for new products, subsystems, components, algorithms and features.

Evaluate and recommend components, technologies, algorithms and technical solutions.

Model, prototype and implement proposed solutions using appropriate engineering tools and techniques.

Collaborate with electrical, RF, integrated-circuit, firmware, software and mechanical teams to define architectures, specifications, interfaces and module designs.

Support products throughout development, integration, testing, formal verification, manufacturing transfer and sustaining engineering.

Investigate product-development and field-performance issues, conduct experiments and perform root-cause analysis.

Partner with Research and Technology and other R&D groups to define architectures for future products and systems based on market needs.

Provide technical leadership in the design, architecture and integration of complex hardware and software systems.

Identify and mitigate technical risks while guiding cross-functional engineering decisions.

Serve as a subject-matter expert in embedded-electronics and systems-engineering domains.

Mentor and train junior engineers and newly hired team members.

Document technical findings, lessons learned and engineering best practices.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
More About You
-
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or a related engineering field.
-
At least five years of engineering experience with a bachelor’s degree, or at least three years of relevant experience with a master’s degree.

At least three years of experience with analog circuits, digital circuits, FPGA platforms, embedded systems, digital signal processing, RF, control systems or integrated circuits.

Strong knowledge of embedded electronic-system design and development.

Experience working with complex ASICs or integrated circuits.

Ability to read integrated-circuit and component datasheets and translate technical specifications into product solutions.

Hands-on experience using laboratory test equipment for system testing, debugging and failure analysis.
-
Experience automating test equipment or engineering workflows using Python or similar scripting tools.
-
Knowledge of system reliability, verification and validation principles.

Experience with relevant engineering tools and languages such as MATLAB, Python, SPICE, C, C++, VHDL, Verilog or SystemC.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across engineering disciplines and organizational levels.

Ability to manage competing priorities, coordinate across departments and meet project deadlines.

Ability to mentor and support junior or less-experienced engineers.

Proficiency in English.

Ability to travel less than 5%.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Master’s degree or PhD in an engineering discipline.

Seven or more years of relevant engineering experience.

Experience in the semiconductor, embedded consumer-product or medical-device industry.

Familiarity with Class III medical-device requirements and applicable standards, including IEC 60601.

Familiarity with Altium 365 or similar schematic and layout collaboration tools.

Experience with FPGA development tools such as Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus.

Experience with embedded-development environments such as MPLAB, Keil or Eclipse.

Experience with LabVIEW, C#, Tableau or other testing, automation and data-visualization tools.

Salary
The annual base salary range for this position is $100,320–$125,400.
