Director Global Trade Compliance
We are looking for a Director Global Trade Compliance to define and lead Sonova’s global customs and trade compliance strategy. In this role, you will act as the global functional leader and subject-matter expert, as well as the Global Process Owner for customs and trade compliance.
You will work across regions, business units and functions to build a harmonized global framework, strengthen governance and controls, and enable efficient international trade across Sonova’s supply chain.
More about the role:
- Define and lead Sonova’s global customs and trade compliance strategy, governance framework, policies and standards.
- Serve as Global Process Owner for customs and trade compliance, establishing clear global processes, ownership, controls and performance standards.
- Harmonize customs and trade compliance processes across manufacturing, distribution and sales organizations worldwide.
- Provide global oversight of tariff classification, customs valuation, origin, import/export documentation and customs declarations.
- Lead the global framework for export controls, sanctions, embargoes and restricted-party screening.
- Own the trade compliance systems and digitalization roadmap, including SAP GTS, automation, data quality and master-data governance.
- Establish risk-assessment, monitoring and internal-control frameworks and ensure timely remediation of audit findings.
- Provide functional leadership and direction to regional and local trade compliance teams across Americas, EMEA and APAC.
- Monitor regulatory developments and translate changes into effective policies, processes, controls and system requirements.
- Establish global governance, standards and KPIs for customs brokers and other external trade compliance providers, and manage relationships with customs authorities, regulators and advisers.
- Develop global training programs and foster a strong, business-oriented compliance culture.
- Lead major transformation initiatives, including SAP GTS implementations, process harmonization and global compliance programs.
- Act as a trusted adviser to senior business leaders, balancing regulatory requirements, risk and business needs.
More about you:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Law, Finance, Business Administration or another relevant discipline.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in customs, export controls, sanctions and international trade compliance.
- Significant experience in a global multinational organization, including leadership of global or regional trade compliance programs.
- Deep expertise in customs classification, valuation, origin, import/export requirements, export controls and sanctions.
- Strong knowledge of relevant global customs, export-control and sanctions regulations.
- Experience with SAP GTS and related SAP solutions is strongly preferred, ideally including involvement in implementation, rollout or major transformation initiatives rather than purely end-user experience.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing global governance frameworks, processes, controls and digital solutions.
- Proven experience managing customs audits, investigations, remediation activities and interactions with regulatory authorities.
- Experience in medical devices, regulated industries, electronics or high-technology products is an advantage.
- Strong strategic and analytical capabilities, combined with sound judgement and a high level of integrity.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively across seniority levels, cultures, functions and business units.
- Strong people leadership and stakeholder-management capabilities, including the ability to lead through influence in a global matrix organization.
- Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into pragmatic, scalable and business-oriented solutions.
- Strong program-, project- and global process-management skills.
- Fluent English; additional languages are an advantage.
